The Reluctant Elf by Michele Gorman

Published October 14, 2014 by Notting Hill Press

Meet Britain's Worst Innkeeper

Single mother and extremely undomestic goddess, Lottie, has five days to become the ultimate B&B hostess to save her beloved Aunt Kate’s livelihood.

When Aunt Kate ends up in the hospital, Lottie and her seven-year-old daughter are called to rural Wales to stand in at the B&B. Without the faintest idea how to run a hotel (she can barely run her own life), Lottie must impress the picky hotel reviewer and his dysfunctional family who are coming to stay over Christmas. Without the rating only he can bestow, Aunt Kate will lose her livelihood.

But will Danny, the local taxi driver who she hires to help her, really be Santa’s little helper, or the Grinch who stole Christmas?

My Thoughts...

This is a cute story.   Michele Gorman has always come through with stories that entertain.   While being a single mom is not easy, Lottie manages it.  I could understand how all the busyness of being a mom makes it difficult to run a household.    When she was called to help her aunt with her B&B I was curious to see how she would handle running the Bed and Breakfast on her own.    I laughed many times at the ways she came up with to do the major fixes that were needed.   Using toothpaste and gum...who would have thought.

The relationship between Lottie and Danny was interesting.   It was not a hot,  steamy,  oh my gosh relationship.  It was a respect and understanding relationship.  I did enjoy watching Danny interact with Lottie and her daughter.

Everything about this story is fun and easy.   I will definitely recommend this seasonal short story.
